Welcome to Year 2 - Midas

Welcome to Midas, which is a year two class. Mrs Jay is the class teacher, alongside the wonderful teaching assistants.

We encourage independence and a love for learning with our children.

We promote the children to be proud of their learning, and work together as a class.

Summer 2 2017 - Monsters

We are taking our inspiration for learning from the story "The Monster Machine". We will be creating monsters using a variety of media, such as clay.The book will also inspire our wonderful writing! Please read the curriculum map to find more about what we will be learning in Midas this half term.

Skipathon Challenge!

Midas enjoyed the skipping challenge and raising money for the British Heart Foundation.


Summer 1 2017 - Puzzlewood

We visited Puzzlewood in the Forset of Dean, and were inspired with the wonder and mystery of the forest. This has inspired our writing for descriptions and narrative (stories)!


Spring 2 2017 - Perfect Pets

Science week - March 2017

What fun we had in Midas during science week, where we did some investigations and experiments.

Midas loved performing and sharing their learning about Africa to the whole school and their families.


February 2017

Midas spoke clearly and projected their voices well to their audience. They talked about their memorable visit to Dudley zoo.


Proud of Learning

Midas really enjoyed this topic, and were eager to share their learning. They particularly enjoyed singing their song about the seven continents and five oceans!


Spring 1 2017 - African Safari

Meerkat Mail

Our topic is "African Safari" -  we will be exploring different habitats, and finding out about the continent Africa.  Read through the curriculum map and newsletter to find out more about this exciting topic!

Dudley Zoo

We had a wonderful time at Dudley zoo. We have been absorbed in our learning about Africa, and wanted to have an experience of seeing real African animals. One of our highlights was watching the meerkats be fed, and bringing our story of "Meerkat Mail" to life!

Erasmus Day - Hungary

Midas learnt about the country Hungary. We focused on our geography skills to add key features to a map. We also learnt about the geography of the country.

We found out some interesting facts about theis country, such as the inventor of the Rubik cube was from Hungary!


Christmas Crafts

We have enjoyed making Christmas crafts to be able to sell at the Christmas Fair, during our alternative curriculum afternoons.


Autumn 2 2016 - Magic and Mystery

Our topic for this half term is "Magic and Mystery". We will be reading books, such as Roald Dahl's "Magic Finger", and "Winnie's Amazing Pumpkin" by Valerie Thomas to inspire our learning.

We enjoyed designing our own settings for a fantasy story. We made them using a show box and a variety of materials.

We created different settings, such as 'Candy Land', and 'Rainbow Castle'. 

We then used our models to inspire our story writing.
